The iPASS Readers (IP-10, IP-20, IP-30 and IPK-101) are 125KHz Proximity readers based on ASK modulation (so called, EM type) The iPass series have a strong price-competitiveness while the Star Series of PSK type is its high security level. Providing iPASS and STAR series, We are to come up with the variety of market demand in terms of security and price.
What is the difference between iPASS¢â and STAR¢â series?
Technically speaking, the difference is of digital modulation: a way of transmitting card number data to a reader. The new line is based on ASK (Amplitude Shifting Keying) while Star series is on PSK (Phase Shifting Keying).
The technical difference results to the difference in the level of security and of price. The ASK type RFID system is less secure and less expensive than those of PSK type since its technology is more conventional and wide spread. In terms of security level, ASK system is lower than the security of PSK type since there is possibility for those cards to be copied, while it is near to impossible for PSK type. In order to strengthen the security
level of iPass line, we are to implement its own format of ID cording instead of open format in very recent future.
